What Is a Company UTR (Unique Tax Reference)?

Published 13/06/2025

Your Company's Unique Tax Reference (or UTR for short) is a unique 10-digit code (e.g., 12345 67890) that you’ll need to file your annual accounts. HMRC usually sends it by post within 10 days of setting up your company, and you’ll find it on any corporation tax letters from them.

Don’t mix this up with your personal UTR - that’s for self-assessment.

If you’re new to Mighty and had a previous accountant, we’ll reach out to them to get this number and add it into Mighty for you - so no need to worry about it.

Can’t find it? You can request a copy from HMRC using this link.
